San Benedetto del Tronto is one of the main sea resorts of the southern Marche and, with over 7000 palm trees
on its wide promenade (one of the most beautiful sea-fronts in Italy), it has a touch of tropical charm.
This resort, with more than 5 Km of fine sand, a soft sea bed not particularly deep, is enriched by an hinterland full
of artistic and medieval towns and places of uncorrupted nature. Many historical pageants are still staged in the
old-town centres, along with spectacular festivities tied to religious commemorations (for example, "la Quintana" in Ascoli,
contest between knights surrounded by figurants and flag wavers). To visit the Marche hinterland also means discovering
a wealth of age-old crafts (the Pillow Lace in Offida).
San Benedetto del Tronto is the most important fishing port along
the Adriatic coast, too. The wholesale fish market is a reference point for the national fish trade.
This is one of the best places to eat delicious dishes of fish. |
