San Benedetto del Tronto: from an ancient fishing village
one of the most characteristic seaside tourist centers in Italy.
The city, located in the middle Adriatic, is characterized by a luxuriant vegetation of splendid palm trees and by a long beach of fine white sand that slopes gently into the sea with shallow waters.
Its proximity to important places of medieval origin allows interesting excursions for art lovers with the possibility both of attending some historical re-enactment in costume with games and banquets (the Giostra della Quintana in Ascoli), and of admiring noble artisan traditions (the precious bobbin lace embroidery in Offida), both to taste typical products of the area (the DOC wines “Falerio dei Colli Ascolani”, “Rosso Piceno Superiore” and the olives all’ascolana).
San Benedetto del Tronto is the most important fishing port along the Adriatic coast, too. The wholesale fish market is a reference point for the national fish trade. This is one of the best places to eat delicious dishes of fish.
